5 Calming Bedroom Design Ideas

You probably already know that your bedroom should be your safe haven… your oasis… your special place.

It makes sense… I mean, after all, it is the place you end your day with and begin your day with.

Shouldn’t your bedroom make you smile and feel comforted?

Well, if you choose to not be in your bedroom until it’s dark outside, here are some bedroom design ideas that will create a calming, relaxing space.

1. Paint your bedroom in your favorite color.

Waking up to a color you love is the perfect way to start your day.
Don’t get so wrapped up in what a bedroom should be or shouldn’t be.
If you love orange, then paint your bedroom orange.

Or paint your bedroom in the complement of your favorite color and then add accents in your favorite color.

The complement is the color on the opposite side of the color wheel.

Red’s complement is Green.

Blue’s complement is Orange.

Yellow’s complement is Purple.

So, if you love purple, maybe paint your walls lavendar and add yellow pillows and a vase of yellow tulips.

Just use colors you truly enjoy for a personal bedroom design.

2. Use one fabric, but use it everywhere.

Many people find it difficlut to coordinate different fabric patterns successfully.
In fact, many bedroom design ideas become too busy with mixes of plaids and florals.

So, choose a fabric that matches your paint color and use it in your drapes… in your bedding… and even in an upholstered chair.

If you’re really worried that this is too much of one fabric, then choose a solid fabric to go along with your main fabric.

3. Add candles and mood lighting.

Lighting can enhance a bedroom design far more than you may realize.
Yes, you need lamps for task lighting, but to really create a bedroom that is glowing, soft and relaxing you need some mood lighting.

This can be created with candles, floor cans that project light upward from the floor, wall sconces and even picture lights.

4. Add soft textures

Keep in mind that the goal of your bedroom design idea is to calm and soothe.
So, choose fabrics that are soft and cozy. Select silks, cottons and suedes. Even terry cloth can add an unexpected luxury.

Use lots of pillows for comfort, and visual interest.

5. Don’t forget privacy

In the evenings, you shouldn’t have to worry about privacy. Make sure your bedroom design ideas include window treatments that cover your windows at night. This will also close the room in and add to the coziness of the room.

Planning the perfect bedroom design idea doesn’t have to be difficult.

Keep it personal, choose the colors and fabrics you like… select artwork that makes you smile and enjoy the decorating process.

Happy Decorating!

Creating Functionality In Modern Bedroom Designs

In modern bedroom designs, the second most important thing, next to a relaxing atmosphere, is the functionality of the room itself. To make a room functional, the needs of the owner need to be carefully considered. How many clothes do they have? How much closet space? Is there a television in the room? How many windows are there? Is there a connected bathroom or does the owner want a vanity table? So many factors need to be considered that owners are often confused and hire an interior decorator to help.

As you could probably guess, the most important part about making a bedroom functional is the bed. A bedroom is designed to relax and sleep in, so choosing the right bed for the room is extremely important. There are many factors involved when choosing a bed, including owner preference, room size, and the design of the rest of the room. Putting a huge bed in a small room makes it feel cramped, but putting a small bed in a large room makes it feel huge. While you may think a bedroom that feels huge would be a good thing, it is not always easy to relax when there is too much space. After the bed is decided upon, clothing storage is the next most important aspect of the room. The dressers must be big enough to store the owner’s clothing, but not so big as to make the room feel cramped. Again, room size and design need to be considered. To make the room modern, the furniture must also be modern, while at the same time being functional. For example, a dresser with faux drawers along with the real ones, while modern, is not the optimal storage space for someone with a lot of clothing.

Modern bedroom designs often try to “hide” closets and television sets, incorporating them into the modern design, while still making them functional. For example, in a modern bedroom with a tropical theme, the closets or the entertainment center which houses the television set may be painted to look like trees, or perhaps the ocean, depending greatly on their design. Why try to hide these things? Maintaining a modern look with a relaxing atmosphere means making sure the design has good use of space. Sometimes in smaller bedrooms, hiding furniture in this way is done to help make the space feel bigger.

Ideas For Bedroom Design

With the exception of your kitchen, bedroom design is the second most popular room to revamp in our homes. Bedrooms need to be places of calm and peace with soft colours and shades and comfortable furniture. Bright colours are not really recommended as they do not befit a calming ambience. Warm, soft and neutral colours are more suitable for your bedroom. Your furniture should reflect the atmosphere you wish to create and should be of the best quality you can afford. Do not neglect to plan your flooring either. Bedroom floors should be carpet or natural wood, both of which are warm and if you choose wood, rugs can be placed for further comfort. A cold floor is not really recommended, so tiles or marble are nor really suitable as they are quite cold and could be slippery – not really a good idea when one is still a bit sleepy.

To begin with, you need to devise a plan of your bedroom complete with correct measurements and positioning of windows, doors and electrical sockets or switches. You can do this on graph paper or you could use one of the many interior design programs for your computer. Once you have chosen your colour scheme, you can then choose fabrics, carpets or rugs and other soft furnishings. If you are having new furniture, measure the available space carefully so that you maximize your storage space. You might like to have fitted furniture which really will make the most of your available space, particularly if you only have a limited amount of space or an unusually shaped room. There is so much beautiful furniture to choose from that you will be spoilt for choice.

If your bedroom windows face east or west, you might like to consider blackout linings for your curtains. This will restrict the amount of light that gets into your room and this can be a huge factor in regions where light increases as the seasons change, nobody wants to be woken up at 4am with bright sunlight blazing into their bedroom. Curtains are a feature of bedrooms and can make or break the design, so choose your curtain fabric carefully. You may like to have your bed linen to match your curtains and there are many manufacturers who produce beautiful sets.

Carefully consider how you wish to light your bedroom. There are so many different styles to choose from. It would be best to choose something in keeping with the rest of your decor. A bedside lamp is always nice and you should be able to find colours to match the rest of your linen and soft furnishings. Be careful of the amount of electrical equipment you have in your bedroom. Whilst having a television and a pc in your bedroom might be convenient, but do remember that bedrooms are a place of rest, peace and tranquillity and neither of these items promote that.

There are many TV programmes, websites and magazines offering advice and ideas for interior design, so make use of them to form your own ideas and get the bedroom of your dreams.
